Adults 21 are invited to join us for a night of Wine & Cheese with Sean Van Straatum, a Certified Sommelier and the Food & Beverage Director of the Oakmont Country Club. Sean has been in the hospitality business for over 10 years while gathering experience as a chef, dining room manager & sommelier.
Guests may either purchase a premium attendee package of 3 half bottles of wine & 3 cheese selections, which will be available for pick-up at the Van Nuys Scout Office (16525 Sherman Way) or select their own wine & cheese of the same type (or preferred drink of choice). A household may purchase a premium attendee package and a regular attendee ticket if they would prefer to split wine & cheese. For logistical purposes, purchase of the premium package will only be available through midnight, September 16th.
We have curated some awesome pairings for this late summer tasting in the hopes of keeping everyone cool!
Wine #1: Pinot Grigio, Italy preferably from Northern Italy
Cheese #1: Aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino
Wine #2: Rose, France preferably from Provence or Southern France
Cheese #2: Brie Cheese or Soft Goat’s Milk Cheese
Wine #3: Pinot Noir, USA preferably from Russian River or Central Coast
Cheese #3: Aged or Smoked Cheddar or an Aged Gouda
WINE INFORMATION:
- When you arrive at home, ensure that the White Wine and Rose Wine is put into a refrigerator, along with the Food Pairing
- The Red Wine can remain at room temperature
- At 5:30pm the night of the event, start to pull all wines, glasses out and open all wines.
- Preferably, you should have 1 glass for each wine, if you do not, then just have another glass to dump excess wine before moving on to the next (or you can just drink it)
- Open all of the wines by 5:45pm (or earlier) so that you are prepared to taste when the tasting commences at 6:00pm
- When the seminar starts, Sean will guide you through the process and pairing
