For the first time in our history, the Western Los Angeles County Council is offering a Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor training course.
This is a 16-hour course over a two day period established and developed by Leave No Trace (lnt.org) and offered through a joint participation agreement with Scouting America.
On Friday evening, we will explore online the need for and importance of outdoor ethics in our Scouting America program by introducing the principles of Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly! the land ethic, and outdoor ethics in the Scouting America advancement and leadership program. On Saturday, we will spend most of our time dedicated to learning about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and the most effective methods of teaching these principles to others at the Culver City Scout House, 10866 Culver Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230.
No previous training or instruction in Leave No Trace or outdoor ethics is required before taking this course. Each participant will be expected to prepare and deliver a five-minute lesson regarding one of the principles of Leave No Trace.
We will be following the standards established by Leave No Trace: all participants in the course must be registered adults in Scouting America eighteen (18) years or older. Your primary instructors, Ethan and Julianna Longhenry, are Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructors; they will be assisted by Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructors. The course requires a minimum of four (4) participants and a maximum of twelve (12) participants, so please sign up today!
