HIGH ADVENTURE TEAM 
Orienteering Course

This course is designed for those individuals who wish to learn about Orienteering and the practical use of map and compass to supplement your scouting program. It is an opportunity to build on your HAT outdoor skills and leader training, expand your knowledge and familiarity with the use of map and compass, terrain and navigational decision making on a specially designed course.

Subjects covered include: Map reading, Compass usage and Orienteering Concepts designed to help you navigate through the 5-mile course.

Who Should Attend:

This course is open to any ScoutsBSA, Venturer, Sea Scout, or registered Adult that has prior experience hiking and an interest in furthering their navigation skills and learn about the activity of orienteering. 

When:

December 9th - 9:00am start (approximately 5 hour course)

Where:

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area
4100 S. La Cienega Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90008

Required to Bring:

Proper clothing for 5 mile hike per weather forecast, writing instrument, compass, medications, sunscreen, 10 essentials, canteen, smart phone with “QR Code Reader” Application or equivalent 

Registration Cost:

$20.00

FYI: 

Many orienteering and navigation advancement & merit badge requirements will be fulfilled during this course:

Second Class 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d
First Class 4a, 4b

Orienteering Merit Badge: Several skills requirements will be covered, as time permits
