Western Los Angeles County Council, in Association with College of the Canyons Engineering Technologies Dept.
Presents the Surveying Merit Badge Workshop!
October 19th, 2019, from 8:00 am to 2:00 PM
Lunch will be provided but let us know if there are any unique food requirements such as allergies, vegetarian, etc. that we need to be aware of.
Participants must be 14 years old by the day of the event to participate.
The first thing to do is to knock off part of requirement #8 by hitting the link below, watching the You Tube and then sending me an email stating that you have done so. We will do a little more with this requirement on October 19
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyeu5JEy5q8
As with any merit badge you are expected to have read the book and to bring with you the blue card from your Scoutmaster. The attached example has all my info on it. Please fill out everything on the card as indicated on the example as we do not want to waste any valuable workshop time.
Please send me an email stating that you have obtained and read carefully the Surveying Merit Badge book.
Additionally, you need to accomplish requirement #6, so that we can finish the remainder of the requirements on October 19. For # 6 you should be able to get a copy of a deed from First American Title Company (The deed can be for your home apartment or someone else's. It is a public record, and your family doesn't have own it). You should first go to the following link and obtain your Assessor Identification Number (AIN) by plugging in your address: Los Angeles County Assessor Portal.
The AIN will be 10 digits, sometimes all together, other times with two dashes like: ####-###-###. The first 4 are the book number, the next 3 are the page number and the last 3 are the parcel number inside the circle on their map book page. (You can download the Assessor Map Book Page by hitting that button when the parcel number comes up.)
Then call or email a customer service representative at a title company (First American for example) and ask them to send you the latest deed for that AIN checking it against your address. Finally, forward the deed to me as a scan or pdf along with you Assessor Map Book Page so that I can credit you. I will do a little pre-survey research and send you back one or more of the survey documents referenced in your deed. You can learn a lot from the questions I'll send you, but you will miss out if you wait until the last minute.
