Name: Marine Science Family Camp!
Dates: March 27th-29th
Price: $288 per person for tent spaces, $2466 for a Private Cabin of 8.
We are excited to announce this new event to be held at Camp Emerald Bay! Expect lots of time to be spent in the Pennington Marine Science Center and Aquarium, learning about starting your own aquarium, and spending time talking with and about marine life!
Costs are inclusive of food, travel from Long Beach/San Pedro to Camp, and housing at camp, along with all programing.

Marine Science Family Camp Weekend at Camp Emerald Bay
Friday:
Check in & loading times are tentative as we use multiple boat vendors throughout the year. Those who
registered will receive an email 1-2 weeks prior to the weekend confirming the actual departure time and
port location. For transportation planning, please account for a check-in time between 4:00pm-6:30pm.
6:30pm Arrival and Announcements - When you exit the boat, you will grab as much of any gear as you
can carry and proceed to the end of the pier. Gather at the “Welcome” sign for a safety briefing.
7:00pm Dinner: Wash hands before entering the Dining Hall
10:00pm Quiet Hours: All participants need to be in bed and noise kept to a minimum. Please be respectful.
Saturday:
7:30am Breakfast: Line up at the Parade Ground in front of your Pack Sign. Wash hands before entering.
8:30am Orientation: Mandatory for ALL participants -- gather on the Dining Hall porch
9:00am-9:45pm Swim Check - Head to the Waterfront for swim checks. Afterward, enjoy open activities
until 12:00 pm, including paddleboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing (poles not provided).
10:00am Guided Snorkel - Engage in the beautiful underwater world with a guided snorkel in Doctor’s
Cove. Your guide will help point out local wildlife and teach you some fun facts along the way.
11:00am Guided Kayak Tour - Participate in a coastal exploration of Emerald Bay as we kayak as a group
to Endemic Rock, pointing out marine life along the way. Please meet at the waterfront benches.
12:00pm Speaker Series - A great opportunity for those interested in a career in marine science, stop by the
Ocean Room for a chance to learn from our speakers as they share about their studies or
experience in the marine field.
12:30pm Lunch: Wash hands before entering the Dining Hall
1:30pm Tidepool Exploration Hike - Explore the low tide with a tidepool hike to nearby Howland’s Landing
(2 miles round trip). Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Meet at the dining hall at 1:30 pm.
1:30pm-2:00pm Swim Check – For those who missed the morning swim checks. Afterward, enjoy open
activities until 12:00 pm, including paddleboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing (poles not provided).
2:30pm Guided Snorkel – An afternoon guided snorkel in Doctor’s for those who missed the morning!
3:30pm Guided Kayak Tour – An afternoon guided kayak tour for those who missed the morning!
4:00pm Behind the Scenes Aquarium Tour and Touch Tanks - Join an aquarist-led walking tour of the PMSC.
Discover where our seawater is sourced, how it moves through our tanks, and the filtration systems we use.
The tour ends at our touch tanks, where you can feel sharks and rays, explore sea stars up close, and more!
4:30pm Shark and Ray Feeding Presentation – Learn how we take care of our sharks and rays, how to
prepare their food, and share fun facts about our local species of benthic sharks and rays.
6:00pm Dinner: Wash hands before entering the Dining Hall
8:00pm Campfire S’mores: Finish off the evening making s’mores with other families over a campfire.
10:00pm Quiet Hours: All participants need to be in bed and noise kept to a minimum. Please be respectful.
Sunday:
6:45am Cabin Clean Up and Pack Camp Sweep – Leave No Trace ***Line up gear along pier per boat#
7:30am Breakfast: Wash hands before entering the Dining Hall
Boat Loading & Departure times are also tentative and will be disclosed 1-2 weeks prior to the weekend. For
transportation planning, please account for a mainland arrival in Long Beach/San Pedro between 10:00am-12:00pm.
