WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: The novice will gain his or her first backpacking experience under knowledgeable guidance; the experienced backpacker will learn how to organize a hike for Scouts. Who should attend: Any registered adult. No prerequisites, no backpacking experience required.
When: Indoor Session: September 16, 2017. 7:30 AM- 5 PM Outdoor Session: September 30,2017 to October 1, 2017 (For LDS, September 29-30, 2017, if requested)
Where: Indoor session: WLACC Scout office 16525 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, Ca. 91406 Outdoor session location: To be determined.
Registration cost: Early registration $25.00 (prior to September 9th), Standard registration $30.00 (paid after September 9th)
Required to bring:
Indoor Session: Field uniform, compass, paper, pen or pencil, and parts A & B medical form. A, 1 hour lunch break will be provided. Please provide your own lunch. Bring it or restaurants are located nearby.
Outdoor Session: Field and Utility uniforms. Transportation to and from the outdoor session. Any medications. Hiking clothing appropriate for weather conditions; equipment and items essential for a 2 day backpacking trip, including 10 Essentials, stove, cook kit & utensils, backpacking tent and sleeping gear, plus three backpack meals for Saturday lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast.
